Lira University graduates 400 students

A total of 400 students of Lira University have graduated with master’s, post-graduate diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, and diplomas in different academic disciplines.

The 5th graduation ceremony graced by the commissioner University education in the ministry of education and sports, Timothy Ssejjoba, saw the students passed out with masters, bachelor degrees as well as post-graduate diplomas in business administration.

Other academic disciplines include, bachelor of computer science, public administration and management, public health, science in midwifery, community psychology and psychotherapy among others.

The University’s vice chancellor, Prof Jasper Ogwal Okeng congratulated the graduates for the graduation and best wishes for the next adventure.

“I hope that you are walking out of Lira University gate a changed person the way you came in and our expectation is that you are going to live a better person in your community,” he says.

He advised them to be good ambassadors, keep on growing and never accept to be in one place with the level of education they have attained as well as their influence.

“Don’t forget that where we are is also a village which needs everybody’s contribution. Keep adding to the goodness on duty of the World,” Ogwal Okeng says.

University appreciates Gov’t support

He expressed appreciation to the government for continuous support to the University saying it is no small because it pours shs45b per year to run the institution.

“We are now running on a budget of 45 billion per year. That money is all coming to this economy, we appreciate the government for it,” he adds.

He added that there is indirect money that comes to the University through the government but they don’t count it.

He appreciated President Museveni for his personal interest in developing the University saying he has set up the first teaching hospital.

Ssejjoba thanked parents and guidance for bearing and working very hard to ensure that the graduates succeed in academic struggle.

He advised the graduates that as they go to the World let them remember that education is not the means to an end but it is a life long journey.

“We should continue to seek knowledge, embrace diversity and contribute meaningly to the good of our society,” he added.

“Therefore as the Bible says in Psalm 118 that this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it,” he concluded.

Graduates excited

James Opok, a graduate of executive master and also worker at the University, encourages people to never give up in education since it is the light of the World.  

He says learning doesn’t end or consider the age of a person but it is a continuous process so long as you have interest.

Kole resident district commissioner, Josephine Omara Olili who graduated with bachelor degree in public administration says the World is moving at faster rate as far as education is concerned and there is need to double the speed.

“We also need to double our speed by being faster to ensure that we catch it through education,” she says.  

She urged her colleagues to go back and study because education doesn’t consider the egg, time and the period spent outside.

She appreciated the government for offering an enabling environment by providing the necessary facilities for everyone to study.
